Auld for Hermes Agent

Hermes Agent loads MCP servers from the mcp_servers section of its config.yaml. Add Auld as a remote server to give it durable memory across sessions and devices.

#Add the server

config.yaml — mcp_servers entry
mcp_servers:
  auld:
    url: "https://YOUR-AULD-HOST/mcp"
    headers:
      Authorization: "Bearer ${AULD_MCP_TOKEN}"
    tools:
exclude: [forget] # optional: keep deletions out of the agent's reach

Remote servers use url and headers; tools.include and tools.exclude filter which server tools Hermes exposes. Replace the token placeholder with your MCP token, or keep it out of the file as your Hermes setup allows. The configuration keys follow the official guide, Use MCP with Hermes.

#Verify the connection

  1. Reload

In a running session, use /reload-mcp after changing the config.

  2. Test from a shell

Run hermes mcp test auld. It connects, lists the discovered tools and exits 0 on success, 1 if the connection fails, and 3 if no server named auld is in your config.

  3. Ask Hermes

“Which MCP-backed tools are available right now?” — remember, recall and memory_status should appear.

Shell
hermes mcp test auld

#How it complements local memory

Keep local notes for instructions and persona. Use Auld for facts that change — where things are deployed, what was decided — so later sessions get the current version with a date.

#Privacy

Use a token with private default visibility for a personal agent. Disable forget if you want deletions to go through you.
